Wilhelm seeks Winter's opinion on the following: "Is Helena Modjeska the greatest Shakespearian Actress of the day?" and "Was Mary Anderson a greater Actress than Helena Modjeska?" At bottom of letter, Winter has noted his opinion with the note "But my opinion does not decide either of your questions: and, as remarked by Dogberry 'comparisons are odorous.'"
